1. Hi....I was wondering the closing of YGP and Journals, will it effect our profile. Can we still add pictures to our profiles?

2. I think you should be able to. You've got Pictures is kind of independent of the profit. Regardless, the way I understand, you cannot add too many pictures on your profile anyway. A few, sure...you can add a few pictures including the main profile picture

3. One more question. Do you suggest people set up AIM profiles now....the pictures not showing up are on the old format for profiles.
People are asking me because I use to volunteer for AOL, have NO clue :).
BTW thanks for all of you hard work, much appreciated.

4. Wish there was someplace for the loyal FTP/Hometown AOL users to ask questions about our FTP space which has already been shut down.

6. Why didnt you contact anyone about closing Hoometown down? I've asked 5 of my friends and they havent received anyting either. I have lost everything that was there. And I need the complete URL to transfer to the new google blogger which I don't have since you closed down. Just another reason not to use AOL anymore.

7. I actually did see a notice about Oct 31, but I thought I would at least have THROUGH Oct 31 to download and save my stuff. Now it is late on the 31st and everything is gone already. THANKS A LOT AOL!!!!!! I could be wrong, but I thought the services I am paying for included FTP space, didn't they???

9. You people need to grow up. It has been posted on this Community Blog since the end of Sept. and at least 2 e mails were sent. You had plenty of time to know what was going on and make the change.
As to thinking that what you are paying for AOL includes these things, why are you paying? AOL is free.

10. I never received an email about this action. Never.
I only found out about this when someone tried to access my site today and was denied. Now it is too late to back up.
I expect AOL to remedy this abject failure to notify by allowing a longer backup period.
Please advise
Thanks

12. I had webpages up which are now completely gone. They contained info I can no longer access. Surely there must be some way to access them again. Any help is greatly appreciated.

13. I would like to say that the alternative for Pictures works, but I cannot. Yes, you can upload pictures to AG, but as far as linking to them for display elsewhere (as was doable with AOL Pictures), it only works for that same day, and then the image is replaced with "Sorry, this image is temporarily unavailable". Temporary? For how long??
When will AOL step up and offer viable alternatives to what they have STOLEN from it's faithful PAYING members. No Hometown, NO Alternative. No more Pictures, NO Alternative. Any questions are simply met with apologies. When will there be any REAL answers. FAQ's DON'T address the REAL questions that People are asking.
AOL, give us some REAL answers! NOW!!

14. So what's the deal?
Is this only a place for venting, or will SOMEONE provide us with REAL answers. I don't need NEW features. AIM 6.8 Refresh has to do with cell phones which I don't even own. What's that got to do with MY needs?
Because AOL deleted perfectly good and usable features, which if you recall were used as selling points to AOL, does that mean that AOL will bedropping it's price? Or will we have to keep paying for features we don't use.
Personally, I could do without all the features that you could do elsewhere on-line. Shopping, Travel, Radio AOL, Greetings, My Mobile. I've never even BEEN to Alabama. Why not delete THEM instead?
I heard a rumor that E-mail is next. Is that so? And DON'T lie to me!
Is someone going to answer? If not, then this BLOG is a waste of AOL and should be deleted.

Dropping it's price for an AOL that is free? That makes alot of sense.
What I find amusing is that you all found this Blog about AIM 6.8 to comment on about AOL Hometown FTP.
But not a single person commented on the Blog from 9/30 about Hometown and Journals closing.
And just as a head's up people, AOL Pictures is also closing down on 12/31.
AOL E Mail is NOT closing.

17. Free? Then why are they still billing my credit card. While certain features may be "free", it's the stuff that I'm paying for (or thought I was paying for) that upsets me most.
I've chatted with a couple of Reps on-line, but NONE offer any kind of resolve or answers other than "we're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you". Like I said, I don't WANT apologies. I want Solutions!
Like I already mentioned, AG is not an alternative to AOL Pictures, given what I imagine many AOL users used AOL Pictures for. And still there are NO answers regarding an AOL in-house alternative to Hometown.
When Pictures went down last weekend, the message said it was due to maintainence and to check back in a few hours. Those few hours tuurned into more than 2 DAYS, with an additional comment of an important message about AOL Pictures. The Rep I chatted with that night could offer NO explanation other than it would be back up at 5AM (Eastern) Monday. It was only THEN that I learned of it's imminent demise.
Any Solutions so far have been less than acceptable, and STILL no one from AOL has come forward to say anything that will satisfy anyone. It's no longer about America on line, but Advertisers on line. Instead of listening to the actual users, they prefer to compromise their initial goal and make it best for their Advertisers by bringing in useless Junk. I don't NEED a Google assisted AOL search engine when I already use Google in the first place. To me, THAT'S a waste. I don't NEED Radio@aol. I don't need Shopping. I don't NEED Travel. I don't NEED Moviefone. I don't NEED Greetings. I don't NEED Expressions. I don't NEED Finance. I don't NEED Music. I don't NEED IM. I don't NEED News. And I don't NEED My Mobile. I DO NEED Help, but not the kind that's being offered. They are ALL stuff that can be sourced elswhere if I ever did. I shouldn't have to be paying for stuff that are useless to me most of the time.
Why should priorites have to be with cell phones? Let the cell phone companies worry about connecting and compatibility. Let THOSE users pay the cost of extra fees, not me. You don't solve issues by creating problems that weren't there to begin with.
The reason for posting here is because it was the first place I found where I COULD post anything. They stopped E-mailing months ago, and the on-line Chats are limited to technical issues. They don't (seem) to know anymore than how to apologize for the inconvenience of it all. They can only boast about what features AOL already has, but I already knew that. I've been paying for that for the last 10 years. It's the idea of taking away the most usefull stuff I'd been paying for as well and not reducing the price. How much MORE do they plan to take away?
