Transfer Your Pictures to PhotoWorks
Dear AOL Pictures User,
You may have recently received an e-mail explaining that as of December 31, 2008, AOL will no longer provide the AOL Pictures online photo service. AOL is thrilled to have partnered with American Greetings' PhotoWorks, an online photo service that enables our AOL Pictures users to continue to upload, share and create with their digital photos. Like AOL Pictures, it has unlimited, FREE photo storage for its users. Plus, PhotoWorks provides great options for printing or creating calendars, mugs or a ton of other photo gifts. Guess what else? If you sign up to transfer your AOL Pictures account to PhotoWorks now, you can receive 50 free prints as part of your first order. Just go to http://pictures.aol.com and select the option to Transfer your Pictures to PhotoWorks.
We encourage you to take advantage of this great partnership and Register for PhotoWorks now.
Sincerely,
The AOL Pictures Team

3. Hey AOL, you say "we have to look carefully at all of AOL's features to make sure we're providing as much value to our members as possible."
That's an insult to our intelligence. "Providing value" means MORE services for the same cost, not LESS or NO services.
A reputable company doesn't treat it's customers like trash by dumping on them like AOL does.

4. Since AOL has terminated my account; how to I retrieve all of my information in my address book and all saved information? I have done the necessary legal steps and have sent a registered letter to CAT (Communuty Actions Team) with still no reply. What a joke, no action at all!!!
AOL has stolen my personal and business information with no explanation and I want it back. At the very least, someone sould contact me and explain to me what to do.

6. After seeing my AOL Hometown page shutdown, I'm a bit sceptical about taking on anything else to do with AOL.
I've transferred my Homepage to Geocities.
My Photos are dealt with using FLICKR. It's free, works well & will more than likely be on the go well after AOL cease trading due to the credit crunch !
Cheers,
Phil.

7. Hello
I am still attempting to get somebody to help me with this issue please.
I don't see where to post this so I'm posting here in hopes that somebody will see it and help me. I believe that part of the benefits of being a paying AOL member is that my AOL Memmber Profile shows up in the Member Directory when searched for. Since I do have one. I've tried everything to solve the problem and I believe it is the AOL system that is defunct.
I think that is fair that it be fixed and I'm only asking very nicely for what is right.
I have created a profile but it is not showing up in the AOL Member Directory search when I search my screen name for it...DeadSunDisturbed.
It looks like I do not have a profile.
Can you please help me with this issue? I feel that if I have an AOL Member Profile, which I do, that it should show up in the Member Directory search.
I would really appreciate greatly any help you can give me with this matter.
Thanks Very Much!

8. AOL is a shinning beacon ofexample on internet and is doing the best they can do at the moment given business models at hand. Availableness can not always be taken lightly but tough decisions par come the day. Do not hasitily cancel any AOL. AIM is stronger everyday and rumors of canceling AIM unfounded. God Bless. Move pictures quickly to take advantage. Thank you. Thank you.

10. AOL, I would certainly like my hometown information that has been removed too. I see that we do not have to worry about our pictures now as you have transferred to American Greeting.
I would hate to loose my AOL pictures too. Are the AOL pictures the ones we send out in an album? Please get me my cancelled hometown files. Thanks.

11. Well. Unfortunately Hometown is no more and actually not topic of this entry, so please stay on topic. Thank you. Hometown files do not exist but plenty of warning was had for transferral saving, so no go I'm afraid, but you can rebuild always with new html or however program used to build it then. So that is that. Please no more hometown references on this thread. Hometown is banished and hence deadline but customer service is much improved and value enhanced dramatically. There is elsewhere it is covered for comments on this site. Talk only about picture transferrals here as mentioned. Another board listed below is accepting all talk about Hometown frustration with more sympathy. God Bless. Gently let AOL Hometown go - as instructed.

12. I find it hard to believe that all the stuff on our pages have completely disappeared. There's no archive of the files anywhere? My wife received no notice whatsoever that her pages were going to be taken down, and now years of work are gone, just like that.

13. Syed seems to be full of crap and is also obviously an AOL employee slinging out the company line of BS...I received no warning that this was to happen..I have used "my ftp space" for 10 years for hosting pics and images I use on several websites and ebay auctions..I spent a lot of time doing it and it will take me a long time to redo it all..prior to AOL pulling the rug out from under my feet, it all worked perfectly and I did not have to check on my ftp pages...If I would have known there was a possibility that AOL would just trash everybody's ftp space info then I guess I would have checked everyday...no matter what Syed says, this was a really bad business move on AOL's part...this was the main reason I stayed with them so long even when they charge sometimes double of what other providers charge...I predict this will be somebody's brilliant idea that will end up running AOL into the ground ...and maybe Syed should be a little more "sympathetic" on this thread also...it's his job that will be on the line long after we have all found new places for our web hosting....and Syad, when that day arrives, please use another thread which is more sypathetic to your problem..........

14. If you lost your files on AOL hometown, despite the 30 days notice that they gave, you may be able to recover some, possibly all, of your work.
Using google, search for your old URL - Google may have made a copy of it, or at least part of it, in their "Cached" version.
Similarly, have a look at Archive.org and look for the "wayback machine" - some web sites are copied and stored there.
If you moved to Geocities and/or Flickr, remember that those are both part of Yahoo! and Yahoo! is in pretty bad shape right now. Don't expect their services to not abruptly shut down one day.
Finally, as a guy with over 20 years experience in online services, NEVER trust ANYONE with your data. ALWAYS have a copy of everything you want on your own computers, with DAILY backups of the stuff that matters to you.

15. As stated previously, there is other thread that deals with AOL Hometown. This is for graphic photos and connection to Photoworks. Topic is topic. As instructed, you plese must post elsewhere regarding your AOL Hometown files. Continual ignoring of this rule could result in TOS violation record and you do not want that. I did hear rumor Geocities is shutting down soon, so that proves it is just not AOL, but everyone having diffculty in economy. It is obvious. Thanks. God Bless. Syed.
Many ex hometown members are making feelings known at location below. All topics allowed. Do not violate TOS on this thread and endanger your valuable AOL account. Thank you. Thanks. Syed.

18. I do not understand. Whether your last comment was posted or not does not imply testicular fortitude as translated. I do not control if something posted. I am Syed. I am not Kelly Wilson the miss. AOL is prime business model. If you are not of AOL why are you posting topic here? You say I have no ball, I say you have no brain. This is for AOL transition teamwork, not your flaming technique which is lacking much sorely. Thanks you. God Bless. -Syed

19. Well, AOL did send out word about the pictures changing, but not a THING about the profiles and all that's going to be put on Bebo.com, now did they? Not only is Bebo far inferior to AOL, but AOL in all of this transition is totally tanking themselves by taking away the services that people pay for in the first place. What's the use in keeping AOL when all they do is continue to crunch services and take them away? It's ridiculous, and now it's discovered that if you play in a role playing game forum on AOL that the leaders of the group will have to actually CREATE groups on Bebo in order for everyone to play. It's ridiculous, considering there are over 300 players in the forum where I play. It's getting to the point that AOL is going to lose far more by doing all of this than they will gain, both financially and with their crumbling reputation, as there are a lot of complaints about all of this. The problem, however, is that there is that the link for feed back is a dead one. No one can tell AOL, not that they will ever truly listen, because they NEVER have, what it is their customers want. Instead, they go along their merry way and do what THEY want to do instead, claiming that the services are enhanced, when in fact, they are getting worse and worse with each passing year.

20. Well, Bebo will get better and better. AOL only bought Bebo in March of 2008 (for 850 million dollars US) so not much time yet to improve but I am sure all will be fine. Notice how few comments are even posted here. This proves how most members are okay with all changes being made. Some few feel they suffer but it is only temporary. thanks. GodBless - Syed
